The School of Chemical Engineering was founded in 1985, as the
first Chemical department of institutions of higher education under China¡¯ s
former Ministry of Coal Industry . Presently, the school provides four
programs for Bachelor¡¯s degrees: Explosive Engineering and Techniques, Chemical
Engineering and Technology, Technology of Medicine, and Applied Chemistry. Three
programs for Master¡¯s degrees are provided in the school: Applied Chemistry,
Chemical Technology, and Engineering Mechanics. It has two research institutes,
namely, Institute of Blasting Techniques and Institute of Chemical Engineering.
There are 110 staff members working in the
school, including 10 professors, 23 associate professors, and 5 senior
engineers. Among them 21 have Master¡¯s degrees or doctor¡¯s degrees offered by
national key institutions or universities and this university. The school
takes the lead in many aspects. For example, it has the largest number of
Doctors of the schools of the university. In addition, it scored the highest
awards in the University, such as the First - class Award for National Advances
of Science and Technology and the Second - class National Award for Teaching
Achievements. United and full of enterprise, a teaching group of moderate
structure, great ability of scientific researches and high academic standard has
been formed, which is also the promise of the school.
The school has two research and
laboratory buildings with a total area of 6,000 m² . It has not only the first indoor explosive
vessel in China, and normal devices for chemical experiments, but also a set of
precise analysis and test machines on infrared rays, ultraviolet rays, atomic
absorption specific surface, and gas chromatogram, which provide a reliable
material base for the teaching work, scientific researches, and development of
the whole school. Since its establishment of nearly 30 years, the school
has turned out nearly two thousand qualified graduals and
several doctors for the country and for Coal Industries of the country.
Meanwhile, great progress has been made in scientific researches.
